2002 Chevy Tracker Engine Problems

I have a 2002 Chevy Tracker. I bought it new in 2002 it is now 2005 and I have not had any problems with my vehicle. It has been serviced regularly at the dealership and the other day my engine died.............
I towed it to the dealership and they informed me that I need a new engine. This came as a shock to me as the engine light or any other light came on to let me know there was a potential problem with the car. So while still owing $12,000.00 for this vehicle I have no use of it as a new engine cost more than what it's worth.
Any Suggestions?????????????? Do you perhaps have a used engine that can be purchased? who would I call
