Format 2nd hard drive for storage only

How do I format a 2nd harddrive For storage of music and movies without losing data on any other harddrive? I have a primary harddrive that my OS is on and the other currently has some other programs that I don't really use a lot. I want to start storing music and other data like movies, etc. on the second harddrive, so if someone can give me some advice I would appreciate it.
