Why do some Wiccans keep their rituals secret and is it necessary?

A friend of mine told me that some Wiccans keep their rituals secret. I just wanted to know why they would and if it's necessary. Could you also point me to any good forums or message boards on Wicca that might discuss these reasons for keeping their ritual such secrets?
